Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was a Philadelphia native, was born and raised in the city. Pam her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her an opportunity to be the curator for the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved into the historical landmark. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as singer-music major. Sullivan began singing as a contralto in the youth choir and after a couple of years, she joined the adult choir. He was exposed to secular music but was initially limited "I had solos singing in the church, and I was asked to be a part of an evangelical label when I was 11, but I was not ready to do that," she recalls. "I had the privilege of being able to get selected for in a McDonald's competitionwhich gave youngsters from cities across the country an opportunity to sing 'Accept the things God allows'. The audience responded very well." At the age 13 she sang along in a duet with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan aged 15, was first signed to Jive Records. It was her first time signing with Jive Records around the age of fifteen. She was the producer of an entire album, but the album never saw release. Sullivan was then dropped by the label. There was a close relationship with Missy Elliott she produced many of the tracks on her debut album, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
